Dede, a refugee from Ethiopia, has lived in Seattle since the age of 10. Dede received a criminal conviction when she was 19 and has been facing deportation since 2006. Since then she has turned her life in a positive direction and has been tireless activist, volunteering her time to help others all over the city.

She has already received a huge outpouring of community support to prevent her deportation and Judge Kandler has already ruled in her favor at a previous hearing. Due to Dede’s example and commitment to community, Governor Gregoire pardoned her in 2011. Click HERE for more info on Dede’s case. Another article on Dede’s situation can be found HERE.
